POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Working with the Model Integration Engineer, lead development of technical solutions and demonstration of compliance of the design for each aspect of the Thermal Management of the machine.
  • Oversight of all components constituting the Thermal Management of the machine
  • Responsible for defining the strategy for the Thermal Management of the Machines
  • Evaluate/Analyse heat sources, defines cooling requirements and efficiency of proposed solutions. Evaluate/Analyse heat flows and creates P&ID of the Heat Management
  • Integrates components and groups of the Thermal Management into the high-level model, representative of the product
  • Prepares and contribute to risk analysis (RA), root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode effect analysis (FMEA)
  • Supports the creation of the initial concepts and defines the final product layout
  • Defines the design space within the scope of the requirement supplied by System Engineering and Product Management and ensures solution from Critical Technology Offices and Mechanical Design and Electrical Engineers, fits within the defined design envelope
  • Define initial solution concepts in collaboration with System Engineers, mechanical design engineers, Chief Engineers and Critical Technology Offices, before detailed design by Mechanical Design Engineers
  • Coordinate and supports the engineering change, design and the design review process as needed
  • Interrogates design solutions in collaboration with systems, mechanical design and manufacturing engineers to ensure they are robust, appropriate, and cost-effective
  • Plan frequent sub-level design reviews with product design, Critical Technology Offices, suppliers, production, assembly, manufacturing, service etc., at several stages of the product design process
  • Investigate problem reports, mechanical failures, challenges, or issues. Suggest updates and design solutions to fix, resolve and upgrade products
  • Lead concurrence with mechanical design, manufacturing engineers, supply chain, Technical Compliance Office, and the Service organisation on product industrialization
  • Liaises with production manufacturing, suppliers, and supply chain to resolve any issues identified during the beta/pre-production phase of the industrialisation cycle
  • Support the creation, review and approval of work instructions, assembly instructions and machine installation manual etc. in collaboration with Production and System Engineering, Product Management and Technical Compliance Office (TCO) to ensure the robust and repeatable assembly, installation and service of products
  • Collect feedback on ways to improve design for assembly on the digital twin
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Design Engineers, Service Organisation and Technical Compliance Office (TCO) to define, spare parts, life-limited or ware parts and consumables within design products
  • Review Design Solutions
  • Check, review and release assembly drawings, sub-assembly drawings and components drawings where necessary
  • Planning integrated systems and sub-assembly (HL and LL) tests in collaboration with Model Integration Engineer, System Engineering, design engineering and test engineers
  • Plan and develop test rigs required with support from mechanical designers and system engineers
  • Liaise with System Engineering and purchasing on the fast track procurement of test and prototype assemblies
  • Technical ownership and documentation of information relevant to the Thermal Management of the products and sub-assemblies using simulations, calculation and numerical tools
  • Ensure all technical information and calculations required to guarantee the thermal robustness of the machine is properly documented
  • Collaborate with the mechanical team to ensure necessary design calculations for the assembly, sub-assembly and parts are provided during machine integration
  • Collaborate with TCO, system engineers and product management to ensure critical technical information about product structural reliability is provided to the customer
  • Defines processes, methods and tools for Heat Management 
  • Establishes and maintain best practices and design guidelines to be applied by the mechanical design team
  • Defines numerical tools development strategies to increase efficiency and reliability of Heat flow predictions
  • Defines and maintain best practices for dimensioning and design of Heat Management system for efficiency, reliability, maintainability and cost effectiveness

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong background in thermal management with 5+ years experience
  • Master's Degree or equivalent certification in the field of engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical) or Physics
  • The principles of system engineering are known to you
  • Ability to perform your own data analysis using state of the art software tools
  • Hands on mentality; you are able to manage your projects from start to finish independently
  • A background in Laser Powder Bed Fusion or similar Additive Manufacturing techniques is favorable
  • Fluency in English
