POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Material Parameter Development Engineer main target is to develop, test and process parameters and relevant post processing conditions for the SLM process for offered materials and layer thicknesses. This starts with reviewing market requirements, including the definition of the qualification process of parameters, the long-term analysis of test results as well as the execution of projects with customer participation and external research institutes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with internal and external customers, technicians, engineers, and scientists in an international environment on material science and parameter development topics 
  • Develop parameter sets for new and existing materials to be processed by SLM and perform full qualification with the focus on material performance, geometrical accuracy, process stability and productivity, by following the Material Parameter Development Process 
  • Full material characterization e.g., mechanical properties, density analysis (cross sections, Archimedes, CT), microstructural investigations, SEM, EBSD chemical analysis, fracture surface analysis, roughness investigations 
  • Prepare deep report of experiments for internal use and write external white papers, conference presentations of developed results (min: internal or external) 
  • Execute deep statistical analysis of material properties data to ensure high confidence level and a high standard of material performance 
  • Deep analysis and understanding of machine and process capabilities with regards to material performance over the full build envelope. 
  • Deep analytical skills and outstanding understanding 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or Equivalent Certification in Engineering Field (e.g. Mechanical, Aerospace) or Physics with focus on LPBF
  • Experience with CAM (i.e. Magics, Build Processor, Netfab, NX, etc.)
  • General scientific research knowledge
  • General knowledge of welding technology
  • Deep analytical skills 
  • Material characterization skills 
  • Experience in process development and material qualification for metal Additive Manufacturing 
  • Deep understanding of material characterization in laboratory environment 
  • Process understanding and experience in operating SLM machines 
  • Knowledge of laser-powder interaction
