POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Contribute to and lead R&D projects for Nikon SLM next generation machines and new materials
- Develop new technologies and parameters for new and existing materials to be processed by Nikon SLM machines and to perform full qualification with the focus on material performance, process stability and productivity
- Conduct printing and performance tests with newly developed technologies and new materials
- Use scientific approaches for solving technological problems and material science challenges in the AM context
- Prepare detailed reports of experiments for internal use and contribute to external white papers as well as conference presentations of developed results
- Collaborate with internal and external customers, technicians, engineers, and scientists in an international environment to work on customer needs regarding technology and material parameter development related topics
- Define future requirements for next generation L-PBF machine products within the Nikon SLM Solutions family
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree or equivalent certification in materials science or engineering field with focus on additive manufacturing (preferred L-PBF) and materials
- 4+ years of professional post-university experience in the field of additive manufacturing
- Broad experience in process parameter development for AM or L-PBF in particular, data preparation for L-PBF (e.g. CAD tools, Magics or comparable), AM- and material-specific design, post-processing of AM parts (e.g. heat treatment), material testing (e.g. hardness and tensile testing, measurement of surface roughness) and qualification
- Good Understanding of metallurgy, processing and testing of metals
- Experience in the scientific methods for planning and conduction of experiments and their evaluation (e.g. design of experiments, statistical analysis) as well as the use scientific software tools (e.g. JMP, Origin, Matlab or comparable) and the presentation of scientific results
- Experience with project management (tools) and funded projects
