POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Working with the Model Integration Engineer, you will lead the development of thermal management solutions and demonstrate compliance of the design across all aspects of machine thermal management. 

  • Define the strategy and develop thermal management concepts for AM machines 
  • Analyse heat sources, heat sinks, and heat flows across machine systems 
  • Define cooling and interface requirements and align with stakeholders and engineering teams 
  • Select and specify thermal management components such as valves, chillers, heat exchangers, and cold plates 
  • Develop thermal architectures and create P&IDs 
  • Perform thermal calculations and 1D/3D simulations 
  • Integrate thermal management components into machine designs in collaboration with Design Engineers 
  • Interrogate design solutions with Systems, Mechanical Design, and Manufacturing Engineers to ensure robust, appropriate, and cost-effective solutions 
  • Coordinate and support engineering change, design, and design review activities 
  • Drive continuous improvement of existing designs and products 
  • Plan and execute testing activities in accordance with the V-model 
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Supply Chain  
  • Own the thermal management system architecture and associated documentation 
  • Support internal stakeholders on e.g. assembly instructions, installation manuals, and related technical documentation 
  • Establish and maintain best practices, standards, and design guidelines 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong background in thermal management with 5+ years of experience 
  • Master's degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical) or Physics 
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles 
  • Experience with liquid cooling systems and understanding of cooling loop chemistry and material compatibility (corrosion, mixed-metal interfaces 
  • Experience with 1D system simulation (e.g. Amesim, Flowmaster, Simulink/ Simscape) and 3D CFD (e.g. StarCCM+, Fluent, OpenFOAM) 
  • Experience with planning, executing, and documenting physical tests in lab and production environments 
  • Hands-on mindset with the ability to independently manage projects from concept to completion 
  • Experience in Laser Powder Bed Fusion or similar Additive Manufacturing technologies is desirable 
  • Fluency in English
